Fundraiser for Voices of Water foundation, with support from Alice Wonder Harp
Service Description
UPDATE: VENUE CHANGE This Corncert will now take place at St Mawnan church (address below) An evening of live music in a candle lit church. Beautiful music from 'Wake the River' and Alice Wonder (harpist) in support of VoW Foundation's mission to support rivers and rias in the UK. Emmeline is currently walking across the UK for rivers. Cornwall based Wake the River span multiple generations in their ages and influences inviting a fresh fusion with delicate, stand-out lead vocals from Freeborn, sensitive instrumentation, layered harmonies and irresistible grooves. Lead vocalist Freeborn and songwriter Woodburn explore a blend of folk, blues, indie and pop genres, always searching for where the playful and the ethereal meet. Multi instrumentalists Height and Seddon add to the sonic mix their knowledge of folk styles and grooves from around the world. Alice Wonder composes music on the harp inspired directly from the seasons and nature that surrounds us. Her music, often using loop pedals and spoken word creates a magical, intricate and wonderous soundscape for you to wander into your imagination. This concert will be supporting Voices of Water's crowdfunder and mission and petition for Rivers and Rias in England to be granted Legal Personhood: What is River Legal Personhood? River personhood is a legal concept that gives a River a voice, by granting a River the status of a legal person. This shifts a River from an ‘object’ under law, to being recognized as an entity with legal 'standing', one with intrinsic value and essential rights that deserve to be enforced and protected. As apart of the wider Rights of Nature movement, River Legal Personhood is ecocentric, following the guardianship model, whereby legal River Guardians are appointed to act on behalf of the Rivers rights, such as the right to flow, the right to regeneration and restoration, and so on. In this, we at the Voices of Water Foundation (VoW) believe that granting Rivers Legal Personhood has the power to change and deepen relationships between humans and nature, away from one of domination, to one of balance. The concert will take place at St Mawnan Church (address below) There will be some refreshments available and possible other fundraising events on the night so please bring some cash.
